Bariclip / Gastric Clip / Vertical Gastric Clamp

Obesity is indeed a major health problem affecting both adults and children worldwide. Bariatric surgeries, such as gastric sleeve and gastric bypass, have been proven effective in losing weight and improving underlying health conditions associated with obesity. These procedures can have a positive impact on life expectancy for individuals who are severely obese and have not been successful with non-surgical weight loss methods.

As a minimally invasive approach, this new laparoscopic procedure aims to offer an alternative to traditional surgical procedures using a clip-like device (BariClip).

BariClip is a laparoscopic surgery in which a silicone-coated titanium tool is placed around the stomach wall to restrict food capacity. This technique aims to achieve a similar effect to sleeve gastrectomy, but instead of surgically removing part of the stomach, the BariClip gastroplasty clip is fixed vertically in a way that disables a significant portion of the stomach, resulting in gastric volume restriction and early satiety.

The BariClip procedure leads to less food consumption and less absorption by the body, resulting in an early feeling of fullness, without disrupting the integrity of the gastrointestinal tract or creating any shortcuts.

The average weight loss expected in BariClip patients is approximately 30-35% of their excess weight. In contrast, patients who have sleeve gastrectomy surgery tend to experience more significant weight loss, losing on average more than 70-80% of their excess weight. However, the late-term results of BariClip are not yet known. It is important to keep in mind that the effectiveness of any weight loss procedure depends on several factors, including the person’s starting weight, diet and lifestyle changes, the patient’s compliance with treatment, and underlying health conditions. Consultation with a qualified bariatric surgery team who can provide personalized information and guidance on the suitability and potential results of different weight loss procedures depending on individual circumstances is essential.
