How Does Sleeve Gastrectomy Work?

The mechanism known and most thought to be like this in vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG); is the reduction of stomach capacity. This is actually one of the reasons why it is called “stomach tube”. But the main balance is achieved by regulating ghrelin secretion.

In fact, when the stomach is empty, ghrelin secretion increases and appetite increases, making the person feel hungry. Meanwhile, the secretion of hormones such as GLP-1, CCK, PPY decreases. When the meal is eaten and the stomach is full, ghrelin secretion decreases, appetite decreases and the person feels full. The secretion of hormones such as GLP-1, CCK, PPY also increases. In fact, with VSG, the hormonal situation in a full stomach is restored and the person’s desire to eat decreases.
